Joshua 13-21 Psalm 68

Yep. Just read 9 chapters in one daily reading. I guess the Bible Project guys know we’re going to skim over most of this info. I mean, I certainly did. I’m not great with current geography, to be perfectly honest. You’re going to throw a bunch of names at me, both men and cities, in just lists. Yeah… that’s not actually gonna mean a whole lot to me. It really isn’t.

You know what does mean a whole lot to me?

“Not one word of all the good promises that the Lord had made to the house of Israel had failed; all came to pass.”

I repeat:

“ALL CAME TO PASS.”

That means a lot me. All his promises. Every word. He did it. He brought it about. He multiplied Abraham’s descedants. He built the nation. He provided for them. He made them wealthy. He gave them the land he always said he would. He blessed them, no matter how obstinant they were, no matter how many times they turned away from him, challenged him, defied him. He kept his word no matter how many times they broke theirs.

Yeah. I might skim over the lists, but I don’t skip them. They are important. The details are important. Whenever they were written out, whether they are straight literal accounts or the recorded oral history told with poetic and dramatic structure, they matter. Because this is the demonstration of God’s covenant promises and their fulfillment. “Not one word of all the good promises that the Lord had made to the house of Israel had failed; all came to pass.”
