Leviticus 5-7 Psalm 31

I considered writing something about the provision for the priests through the sacrifices, but to be honest, that doesn’t feel quite right, so I’m going to step over to the Psalms.

I haven’t written about any of the Psalms yet, even though most of my lettering has been from the daily Psalm. I didn’t even have anything to say about Psalm 23.

Psalm 31 isn’t the first with this particular theme, and it isn’t my favorite either, but it is the first that has taken my attention away from the other passage of the day.

David expresses such beautiful, human faith. He praises God; he gives thanks to God; he confesses his distress and grief and pain. He chooses to remain faithful, to recognize that God has always been with him, even in the midst of his hardship.

“I had said in my alarm, ‘I am cut off form your sight.’ But you heard the voice of my pleas for mercy when I cried to you for help.”

He’s had his doubts. He’s felt alone and unheard. But he still praises God and admonishes others to do the same.

How beautiful is that? How much encouragement can we take from that?

Short reflection today, but let that sit with you. You are not alone in your experiences, your fears or your pain or your doubts. You never have been. There have been so many others who have felt as you feel, and, just like them, even when you feel alone, God is still with you.

Choose faith. Choose hope. Keep praising God through the pain and rest in his peace. Let your heart take courage.
