Proverbs 1-3 Psalm 147

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.

Trust in the Lord with all you heart. Lean not unto your own understanding.

I don’t think we’re supposed to be cowering in fear the way we tend think of fear, but, yeah. God is the creator of all things, commands his creation at will. Remember his answer to Job. There is not any way in which we can stand before him without his mercy and grace, without his permission and acceptance. It is by his love we exist, that we endure.

The fear of the Lord is humility. It is understanding who we are in light of who he is. And that fear should inspire us to seek understanding, to learn all that we can of his will and his person and our place before him. That fear should make us attentive. The more we attend, the more we understand, the more we will know his love, understand his guidance, and grow into who we were always meant to be, who we were created to be. It is through this that we will find peace, contentment, fulfillment.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. It sets us on the road to discovery, to an indepth personal relationship.

God is not a cosmic kill-joy seeking miserable abject observation of endless rules. Nor is he a cosmic vending machine waiting to spit out blessings as soon as you input the right combination of words and actions. He is a complex, unfathomable, mystery of an all powerful creator God who wants to have a personal relationship with each of us.
