Proverbs 19-21

Ok. I’ll be honest. I’m a bit exhausted this week. There wasn’t really a particular verse that leapt out to me, or a particular theme.

What did strike me was how dense Proverbs is. Yes, a lot of these verses are variations on a theme, but there’s no narrative here. There’s no progression. It’s just a string of, well, proverbs.

There’s one Biblical reading plan that suggests reading one chapter of Proverb a day, every month. Just read them in rotation. I think that might not be a bad idea. Even if you get to the point where you’re so familiar with them that you just skim the chapter. If you just reflect on one verse out of each chapter for a few minutes, it would be worth the exercise.

Reading three chapters seems a bit overwhelming, but since I’m not reading anything else, I can give it more concentrated attention. Mostly, I read a bit, do something else, and come back for a bit more. It’s been helpful to read it this way, to break it up, to keep from glossing over. The thing is, really, you just have to find what works for you. What helps you connect to the Scripture as you read it?
