Micah 5-8 Psalm 130

What does the Lord require? One of an escalating list of sacrifices? Or is it a lot more simple than that?

According to Micah, God’s been pretty clear: Do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with God.

I think that’s… I think that’s plain enough, don’t you?

Unfortunately, we see people argue about what is ‘just’ every day. So, let’s review the articles of justice that receive the vast majority of attention in Scripture: provide for the widows and orphans, protect the sojourners, and don’t take bribes. Yeah, I think that covers it.

Kindness is a bit harder to debate.

As for walking humbly with God? I think that’s between you and God. I don’t know about you, but I can’t see into people’s hearts. I kind of have to take their word for it and leave it up to God to correct if they’re lying. That’s not my job.

My job is to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with God.

(For clarity, my understanding of walking humbly with God is reading his word and prayerfully submitting to the leading of the Spirit.)
